    Wanderings

    Earlier this week, when we had a brief respite from our usual wet, coastal winter weather, I went wandering around the abandoned fields behind our farm. I like to imagine what the fields were once like.  Ancient apple trees are dotted all over the hillside and meadow, and there is a large pond surrounded by evergreens that dries completely in the summer but right now is overflowing with water.  I often wonder if the pond is actually the foundation of a long forgotten house and if the apple trees were once a thriving orchard.  When the pond dries up I'll see if there are any remnants of an old farmhouse.…
